"Between the Shadow and the Rose" is a collection of selected poems by Carlos Penela, a renowned Galician poet. His earlier books of poetry in Galician were published in Galicia, Spain. This is the first bilingual edition of poems by this important Galician poet published in North America.
Carlos Penela (born in Vigo, Galicia, Spain, in 1975) is an award-winning Galician poet. His earlier books of poems include As linhagens do frio (1998), Acaso o inverno (2001), O que ardeu nos espellos (2004), Sombras rosas sombras (2008), Arte de fuga (2014), Ese tépedo vento que pasa sobre o mundo (2019) and Trono e caléndula (2023). His work has been published in major Galician literary magazines and newspapers, and his poems have been translated into German and Spanish. His translations from Portuguese and German include Walter Benjamin’s Moscow Diary. He has lived in Vienna since 2004.
