Our Manifesto

In a world obsessed with culture-neutral “self-expression,” Open Ends Press advocates for literature grounded in tradition yet bold enough to transcend borders and cultural fads; it believes that the energy of new beginnings can only come from those who know their past and its various, multifaceted forms, and it supports works in which style —the how— is inseparable from content —the what. It believes that real writers still know the meaning of courage and truth, which is not to say that it supports the separation of genres into “fiction” and “non-fiction”; rather, it supports original writing with a point of view, even or especially if, the point of view challenges current orthodoxies, whether esthetic or ideological.

Open Ends Press attempts to create a network of writers who are united by the idea that only by daring to think independently can we create a world in which the creative act still matters. We also believe that while Beauty and Truth may have a sociocultural dimension that varies from place to place and from era to era, the search for them is universal. No creative act can exist without this search.
